Dr J. S. Riar is a postgraduate in English literature and history from Punjab University Chandigarh and B.Ed degree holder from Annamalai University. He has been conferred with a degree of PhD in Philosophy from Jeeva Thosophical Society. He has also done a couple of courses in child psychology. Dr Riar has a rich and vast experience in the top ranking boarding schools of India.

He has served for 12 years as English teacher and House Master at the Punjab Public School Nabha, a premier member of elite(Indian Public School’s Conference). PPS also happens to be the first Sainik School of India housed in 600-acre campus of the erstwhile Maharaj of Nabha State Ripudaman Singh of district Patiala, Punjab.

He has closely worked with oldest and heritage boarding schools of India like The Scindia School Gwalior, The Lawrence School, Sanawar, YPS Patiala etc on the projects like Duke of Edinburgh Award – IAYP, British Council Activities and Round Square Conference.


He has vertical and horizontal exposure in sports and adventurous activities. Dr Riar has also done certificate course in the discipline of Hockey from LNCPE Trivandrum Kerala from sports authority of India during his tenure at the PPS Nabha. He has also scaled Shivling a peek at Gangotri(14000 ft) Uttarkashi along with the students and teachers during his basic course in adventure and mountaineering from the N.I.M (Nehru Institute of Mountaineering) under Ministry of Defence.


After leaving Nabha school, he joined General Gurnam Singh Public School Sangrur, Punjab as principal patronised by Captain Amarinder Singh Ex CM Punjab as a Principal. He has been awarded many accolades like Commendation on Republic Day, Rashtriya Vidya Gold Medal, Rajiv Gandhi Gold Award etc for his outstanding contribution in the field of Public School education.

Dr. Riar has very closely served with CBSE circles as a member of CBSE inspection committee, Chairman of Sahodaya cluster, Advisor NCERT, guest speaker on school related issues, resource person etc.
